The City of Belleville paid tribute to teams and athletes who competed and succeeded at the Provincial, National and even World levels with their annual Honours and Awards night.
In all, 133 local athletes, coaches, trainers and managers were recognized for their outstanding athletic achievements at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre.
Karsten Leonard, Owen Dever, Bailey Maracle and Landon McLellan were members of Canadian Ball Hockey teams that competed at World Championships in 2018.
Also cited were ten pin bowlers Nicholas Blagojevic and Kylie Gallant. Karate gold medalists Owen Hay, Peter Zavos, Dorjee Matho and coach Kenzo Dozono.
Gymnasts Kaitlyn Moncrieff, Linn Neumaier, Jamie Dafoe, Molly Dion, Mattea Shunock, Rebekah Grigoriou and coach Debbie Claire.
The Ontario champion Belleville Novice “AA” Ball Hockey team. The Belleville Minor PeeWee Junior Bulls hockey team, The Under 16 Women’s Eastern Canadian champion Rugby club and the OFSAA Senior Girls’ Rugby champion Bayside Red Devils.
The night began with the presentation of the Robinson-Kelleher Memorial Award to Nathaniel St. Romain as Belleville’s Athlete of the Year.
