Nicholson Catholic College track and field hurdler Nate St. Romain has been named the winner of the 2018 “Robinson-Kelleher Memorial Award” as Belleville’s Athlete of the Year.
Romain won 7 of 8 races in the senior 400 metre hurdles in 2018 including gold medals in the track and field Grand Slam of Bay of Quinte, COSSA, East Regional and the Ontario High School Track and Field Championships. His winning time at the Provincial championships at York University in Toronto was 52.94 seconds.
The 20 year old St. Romain also earned gold in the 400 hurdles at the annual Michelle Foley Invitational Track meet last May. Ironically, Foley was the first winner of the Robinson-Kelleher Memorial Award in 1985.
St. Romain is currently competing for Simon Fraser University in British Columbia and won’t be able to attend tomorrow (Wednesday) night’s City of Belleville Honours and Awards presentations at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre.
The award presentation is open to the public at 6pm
