It was a year of accomplishments for the staff and volunteers at Prince Edward County’s five museums.
In a report to Prince Edward County council’s Committee of the Whole Thursday, a representative from County Museums told the
committee almost 12,000 people visited the museums last year.
Visits by students totalled 510.
Ameliasburgh Heritage Village, Macaulay Heritage Park, Mariner’s Park Museum, Rose House Museum, and Wellington Heritage Museum, all seasonal,
were mostly staffed by volunteers who put in close to 6,000 hours. The museums operate 35 structures and have a $680,000 annual budget.
Among the highlights of the year was “Flashback February” in Prince Edward County during Ontario’s Heritage Week, and the special programming was so well
accepted that a bigger event will be run again this February.
Another new program that attracted visitors was an “Indigenous Art Show & Sale”. Organized with the assistance of Tyendinaga Mohawks, the summer time exhibit and sale at Macaulay Heritage Park brought in close to 800 visitors over 10 days. The art was provided by 10 Indigenous artists.
That event will be run again as well.
