Break and enters
On April 23, 2019 at 10:45 a.m., police received a report of a break-in to a home in the west end of the city. A homeowner reported observing her home entered and property missing. An X-Box controller was taken after an unknown suspect gained entry to the home via a digital lock. An investigation is continuing. Police investigated a second break and enter on Old Highway 2 at 11:12 a.m. A homeowner reported two outside screens to her basement and kitchen windows had been slashed. Further investigation revealed nothing appeared to be missing, but the damage was observed. An investigation into the matter is continuing. Liquor charge
On April 23, 2019 at 1:42 p.m., an officer on foot patrol in the downtown core area of the city came across an elderly man sipping from a suspected bottle containing liquor. The officer continued the investigation which resulted in a 71-year-old man being charged under the Liquor Licence Act of Ontario and receiving an offence notice for “Consuming liquor in other than licensed premises, residence or private place.”
Dating site fraud
On April 23, 2019 at 2: 29 p.m., police received a report from a retail location in the north end of the city. An elderly female was assisted by store security in determining that she was about to be the victim of a $1,000 attempted fraud. Police and store security worked diligently in securing the safety of the woman and ensuring that she did not comply with a request to send a money order via Western Union to a Christian Dating website. Police are continuing the investigation and are asking anyone with knowledge of this, or who may have fallen prey to it to please contact investigating officer Cst. Arrested on warrant
On April 23, 2019 at 6:13 p.m., police were called to a bank on Front Street for a report of a suspicious man hanging around the ATM machine. A worker was also allegedly threatened by the man. After concluding an investigation, it revealed the threats to be unfounded, but the 27-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested on the strength of an arrest warrant issued by a Justice earlier for a criminal charge of “Failing to comply with probation.” The man was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Belleville Police Service to await a show cause hearing later today.

Police responded to numerous other calls for assistance throughout the day and night including calls to assist ambulance, suspicious persons and motor vehicles, neighbour and family disturbances, domestic disputes, other bail violations, traffic complaints, reports of unwanted persons, and accidental 911 calls.
