Belleville Fire Dispatch received multiple calls at approximately 10:25 a.m. this morning reporting a house was on fire on Bridge Street East. Fire Fighters from Stations 1 and 2, under the incident command of Captain Keays responded to the location to find heavy smoke and fire venting from windows on the west side of the structure. The fire was brought under control quickly by the crews and there were no injuries as a result. The occupants were not home at the time of the fire and the family pet was removed safely. The home is insured and damage estimated at approximately $60,000.
Credit must be given to the observant passersby, whose quick actions calling 911 impacted what may have been a much greater loss. The fire is not suspicious in nature and the investigation continues.
