The provincial government’s cuts to library services does not have a big impact on Belleville Public Library but the libraries in smaller communities in the Quinte area could feel the change.
The operating budget of the Southern Ontario Library Service has been slashed by about 50 per cent.
The service coordinates exchanges between libraries and provides consultation and training.

Carr says the Belleville library has focused on increasing its collection since the demand has increased about 5% recently.
He says smaller libraries use the system more since they don’t have large collections.
He emphasized it has no effect on Hastinet, the collaborative exchange service between Belleville and Quinte West libraries.
