Lawyer Kris Bonn of Bonn Law is a marathon man and he’s done several of those gruelling events but as he told Quinte News as he was about to finish his 24 hour Mind Over Matter run “this is the hardest thing, mentally and physically, that I’ve ever done! I am exhausted, drained! My legs are killing me”!
Bonn, who turned 45 this weekend, started running/walking at 5 p.m. yesterday (Friday) and finished after 363 laps around Mary-Anne Sills Park at 5 p.m. today (Saturday).
I did the math. That’s 145 kilometres or almost 91 miles!
His voice was hoarse and his gait was stiff featuring a slight limp but he did it!
Bonn took on the monumental physical, mental, and emotional challenge in cold, windy and wet weather to draw attention to The Brain Injury Association Quinte and District. He also hoped to raise $15,000 for the non-profit organization. He is the Chairman of the Board of Directors.
The Association’s headquarters are located on Pinnacle Street near the Belleville Public Library.
“We fly under the radar, but we help so many people who are suffering with acquired brain injuries. I feel great about helping out in any way I can.”
Dozens of people turned up at various times during the run, including in the dead of night in a pouring rain to support Bonn and close to 100 people cheered as he crossed the finish line.
“I couldn’t have finished this without their support! I can’t thank them enough!”
After the run Bonn was heading to receive a well deserved massage and then to a celebration supper.
“I plan on being in bed around 8 o’clock tonight and I expect to be there for quite a while!”
The final fundraising total wasn’t in at the time of publication, but the goal was more than met.
Kris Bonn proved there really is such a thing as mind over matter.
