The Open Door Cafe lunch program at Belleville’s Eastminster United Church is getting a boost from the Federal Government.
MP Neil Ellis announced a $25,000 grant from the New Horizons for Seniors program, which also comes on the heels of a $10,000 grant issued recently by the City of Belleville.
Janice Seaboyer has been the program coordinator since the start of the year but says the money will be used to make major upgrades to the church kitchen.
Joe Culp has been helping run the Open Door Cafe for 14 years and says the lunch makes a big difference for some members of the community.
He adds that along with helping feed people in the community, the program is also an avenue for some residents with developmental disabilities, to find gainful employment.
The Open Door Cafe has been running for 21 years and is open to all members of the community, every Wednesday afternoon.
