Two Tweed area churches are benefitting from over $17,000 in federal funding to help keep seniors active and involved in their communities.
Hastings – Lennox and Addington MP Mike Bossio announced, on behalf of the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister of Seniors, an investment for two projects through the New Horizons for Seniors Program.
St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church will receive $12,619 for the Seniors Growing Food and Friends for Life project which teaches valuable gardening skills.
Thomasburg United Church will receive $5,000 for a commercial dishwasher that will reduce the workload for their aging membership.
Bossio says this type of funding is so important to the sustainability of rural communities as they age. The Government of Canada is providing a wide range of opportunities for seniors to participate in meaningful activities that nurture their personal growth and foster community vitality.
A total of approximately $35 million has been approved across Canada for community-based projects this year.
