The fight for the last playoff spot in the American Hockey League’s North Division is going the distance.
The Belleville Senators took advantage of a Cleveland Monsters loss Friday night and beat the Toronto Marlies Saturday afternoon 3 to 2.
Here is Jack Miller with the call of the final seconds.
But it was far from easy. It took overtime. And the winner came from a player who had only scored 6 goals previous to scoring the most important goal of his team’s season.
Chase Balisy broke up a play in front of the Senators net and moved it up the ice in a 2 on 1 with Cody Goloubef, passing back and forth until deflecting the puck for a goal near the Toronto crease.
The winner came just 32 seconds into overtime.
Rudolph Balcers scored the other two goals for the Senators and was the first star of the game while Balisy took second star.
Marcus Hogberg made 22 saves.
The result means Cleveland and Belleville are tied at 82 points apiece.
Only one of the two will see post-season action and that will be decided Sunday
The Senators play host to the Rochester Americans at the CAA Arena. Jack Miller will have the game on CJBQ 800 AM starting at 1:50 pm.
At 4:00 pm the Cleveland Monsters will play the Toronto Marlies.
