The executive director of the Community Development Council of Quinte is not impressed with yesterday’s provincial budget.
Ruth Ingersoll says free dental care for low income seniors sounds good but the only people who will benefit are those earning less than $19,300 a year.
Meanwhile, Ingersoll also says that while it again sounds good to let people on social assistance or disability benefits earn more money before it’s clawed back, the government has previously changed the definition of disability so in fact tens of thousands of people won’t be eligible for the benefits anymore.
Ingersoll is also unhappy with the gradual cutting of funding for the Ministry of Children and Community Services, and in education.
She also says the loosening of regulations on drinking and gambling will lead to more social problems in society.
