Prince Edward County council is moving forward with the Affordable Housing Corporation.
Council approved the first by-law for the group on Tuesday evening at Shire Hall.
Mayor Steve Ferguson says the approval will allow the group to take the next steps.
Councillor Bill Roberts wanted to know if they can reasonably expect shovels to break ground this year as a result of the Affordable Housing Corporation.
Councillor Ernie Margetson said he couldn’t answer that question as he didn’t have anything factual to back his answer up.
He stated he is anxious to get things going and he understands the urgency, but said it will take some time for the group to get their legs under them.
The approval also sees the transfer of funds from the 2018 operating budget allocated for affordable housing.
It is estimated there is over $170,000 currently in reserve.
The Prince Edward County Affordable Housing Corporation (PECAHC) was established in late 2018 to help create a community where all residents can work and afford to live through the development of diverse housing options.
