The Belleville Senators team outlined its contribution to the city, at city council this week.
In his presentation, Chief Operating Officer Rob Mullowney noted the team has had a strong economic impact on the city with 45 employees, 100 plus part-time staff per game, and 2,700 hotel nights, this past season.
He said, “Seventy-two percent of our fans are from our primary market of 600,000” stretching from Oshawa to Kingston.
The statistics showed $250,000 went directly to the community via the 50/50 draw.
Mullowney emphasized to Quinte News the players’ impact on the community.
Mullowney said that in partnership with the casino, the team helped donate $25,000 to Three Oaks shelter, helped raise $19,498 for cancer through Wheels of Hope, and $20,000 through the CAA Chuck A Puck Pilot.
He said more than 100 community groups were impacted by the Senators via direct donations to raise funds and the team players made more than 30 community appearances.
In September the Belleville Senators will host the 2019 Rookie Challenge, an exhibition series with Montreal Canadiens, Winnipeg Jets, and Ottawa Senators at the CAA arena in Belleville.
