It was a first this morning for the City of Quinte West and farmer Rod Goit.
The first Farm 911 sign was installed at a field entrance at the Murray Ward farm today (Monday).
Farm 911: The Emily Project aims to increase signage on rural properties at unmarked field entrances following the tragic death of Emily Trudeau during a farming accident. First responders were unable to quickly locate the field where the accident took place.
Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison says he is proud the city is participating in The Emily Project and he looks forward to seeing more signs in front of properties in Quinte West.
“When I heard what happened and learned about the project, I knew right away I wanted to be involved,” says Goit. “I don’t want to see something like that happen ever again.”
All rural property owners who have any unmarked entrances to their property are encouraged to apply to the program, which costs only $50 per sign. Property owners can get the application at quintewest.ca or by reaching out to the Public Works Department directly 613-392-2841 x4407.
