Over the next five years, Hastings County will receive over $1.4 million from the federal government in an effort to reduce homelessness.
Bay of Quinte MP Neil Ellis announced today the launch of Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy.
The program will continue to support communities’ efforts to prevent and reduce homelessness and support the goals of the National Housing Strategy.
MP Ellis says the Reaching Home Strategy is a trailblazing initiative and every Canadian deserves to have a safe, affordable place to call home, and this strategy will make that goal much more attainable.
Communities will have three years to introduce coordinated access systems to prioritize people who are most in need of housing and support services.
The federal government will work with communities to develop and deliver data-driven systems and an outcomes-based approach will keep decision making at the local level and give communities greater flexibility to address local priorities and achieve results for the most vulnerable within their communities.
The National Housing Strategy is a 10 year, $40 million plan to lift thousands out of housing need.
