Belleville’s Planning Advisory Committee has voted against a staff recommendation to make changes to a new phase of the Settler’s Ridge subdivision off of Sidney Street.
The developers are applying for rezoning on part of phase 5 to allow for 40 townhouses.
If approved, the townhouses would replace 25 single family homes that had been proposed for the property.
Staff recommended committee approve the rezoning.
However, at Monday night’s meeting, most on committee agreed with Councillor Bill Sandison that the townhouses would be incompatible with the neighborhood and that the subdivision already had more than enough townhouses. Parking was also a concern.
Sandison believes the proposed townhouses amounted to little more than a “cash grab”.
Council will make the final decision.
