The calendar month is set to flip over to April, for most that is the sign of spring.
For the Canadian Cancer Society that is the sign of hope and renewal as Daffodil month has arrived in Belleville.
The Daffodil campaign is an event put on by the Canadian Cancer Society that aims to celebrate our community working together to support those living with cancer.
April is the month on the calendar to look ahead and find hope for those fighting cancer because “life is bigger than cancer.”
Members of the Canadian Cancer Society, local mayors Mitch Panciuk and Jim Harrison, members of council and Ann-Marie Vaughan of Loyalist College were joined by guest speakers, Da Young Kong and Leonora Dudley-Lane and other guests in attendance to kick off the Daffodil campaign.
Kong, is a member of the RIOT branch of the Canadian Cancer Society. She spoke about the new developments in research and treatment for those in need.
She says, “We have been trying to beat this detrimental disease for decades.”
“We are getting closer than ever before and it’s the support of volunteers and the Canadian Cancer Society that we have to thank.” Kong adds.
Dudley-Lane is an inspiring motivational speaker and lifestyle blogger. She has had her own battle with cancer and has this to say about the campaign and her personal journey.
She adds,
Dudley-Lane is big believer in, “It’s not about how you start, it’s about you finish,” she says.
The event took place at Loyalist College on Friday afternoon. Daffodil month begins in Belleville on April 1.
