Quinte West’s fire chief says charges could be laid after a grass fire on Wednesday afternoon.
Firefighters from Quinte West Station 4 were called to Boardmans Road around 1:40 p.m. and spent about two hours on scene extinguishing the flames.
Fire Chief John Whelan says the residents were burning outside their home without a permit and left the property, thinking the flames were out, but that wasn’t the case.
He says Quinte West Fire Prevention Officers will be investigating and is reminding all residents that if you’re going to burn anything on your property, you need to get a permit from the fire department or risk fines and possible charges.
