Another handful of awards and honours were handed out by the Belleville Police Services Board on Tuesday morning.
Photos of the award recipients can be seen below.
Corey McKay and Phillip Smith were given commendations of bravery for helping to rescue two men who went through the ice on the Bay of Quinte in February.
McKay and Smith were fishing in an ice hut that morning when two other fishermen on an ATV plunged through the ice nearby.
McKay and Smith tossed a rope to the two men in distress, who were wearing flotation bibs and were bobbing on top of the water and were able to pull them to safety.
After helping them warm up for a few moments inside their ice hut, the two men were taken to shore where Hastings-Quinte EMS was waiting and transported them to hospital to be treated for hypothermia.
Constable Adam Donaldson was also issued a Bar of Courage for his role in rescuing a man that jumped off the Norris-Whitney Bridge last October.
Donaldson and another officer responded to a call of a suicidal man, who jumped off the bridge while they were trying to talk him down and Donaldson ended up dropping himself some 40 feet into the water to help keep the man from drowning.
Donaldson and his partner Matt Coughlin spent close to 11 minutes in the water with the man, drifting away from the bridge and the shore, until a fishing boat nearby picked them up and brought them to shore, where paramedics and firefighters were waiting.
Cushman Wakefield Asset Services was recognized for their role in assisting with the Belleville Police Cop Shop program, where 45 local youths were teamed up with officers to buy Christmas presents for their families.
Belleville Sport and Lawn Centre was recognized for continued support of the police service in donating ATVs, and BPS employee Heather Anderson was recognized for her work in submitting Stats Canada-required data on time and without error.
Chief Ron Gignac told the police board in all of his years as a chief he had never seen someone in Anderson’s position with more work ethic and attention to detail.
