Belleville is cutting ties with the company that carried out the “non-investigation” of a complaint last year about the Saturday breakfast meetings by some members of city council.
The report from Amberly Gavel Limited indicated the information was too vague to warrant an investigation.
Members of council commented it had taken nearly a year for the company to deliver this report that involved “no investigation”.
Councillor Garnet Thompson who attended some of the breakfasts says it was a “fishing expedition”.
At one point the company indicated it had not heard back from the councillors.
Thompson said he had never even been contacted by the investigator, even though it all began last May.
Thompson told Quinte News he felt he “had been under a cloud.”
Mayor Mitch Panciuk.
Panciuk said he had had tried all last summer and fall to get in touch with the company, with no luck.
He indicated he “had a lack of confidence regarding the meetings investigator who delayed and delayed and then said there were no grounds to investigate.”
City council decided not to renew the contract with Amberly Gavel and to use the “council meetings’ ” investigator instead.
