Belleville has put its support behind the Hospice Quinte campaign to build a Care Centre in the area.
At Monday night’s city council meeting, Mayor Mitch Panciuk announced that Belleville has pledged $1 million to the Hospice Quinte Care Centre which will be built on land donated by Quinte West, not far from Belleville’s western border.
Quinte West has also donated $1 million.
It will be a 10,796 square foot facility with six private beds.
Mayor Panciuk tells Quinte News Belleville has a long history of supporting health care from doctor recruitment to help funding hospital foundations.
The million dollar commitment will be spread out over a number of years.
It will be taken from social infrastructure funds and the city’s Elexicon Energy dividends in the following manner:
$50,000 from social infrastructure funding

$225,000 from Elexicon Energy
$225,000 from Elexicon Energy
$225,000 from Elexicon Energy
$225,000 from Elexicon Energy
The facility will feature six private bedrooms with outdoor patios, a quiet area, private family rooms, outdoor green space and a garden.
The goal is to break ground in the spring of 2020 and open the doors in the spring of 2021.
