A two-day conference aimed at improving the availability of rental housing in Belleville opens Monday morning.
The conference, being held at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre, will focus on hearing from agencies in the field and recommendations for improving the situation. Mayor Mitch Panciuk tells Quinte News one of the issues is figuring out the city’s legal situation.
Panciuk says the conference is organized to come up with some possible solutions.
Ruth Estwick of Quinte Homebuilders’ Association and Bob Cotterell of Altogether Housing Corporation helped organize the conference.
Mayor Panciuk emphasized how they have helped.
“These are people who are very familiar with both the supply of housing and rental housing in Belleville, but also how to get it done in such a way that it becomes affordable housing. They were very helpful to get people at this conference. They have a great variety of organizations that will be there.”
