Midway through last year, public health inspectors took on the extra duty of the new provincial law covering electronic cigarettes and cannabis to the places of prohibitions.
Hastings and Prince Edward Heath Unit Director of Health Protection Eric Serwotka recently reported on the inspection activity during the last six months of 2018.
There were a number of warnings about retailers supplying electronic cigarettes and tobacco cigarettes to someone under 19 years of age.
A total of 13 tickets was issued for selling tobacco to a person under age.
These charges came about from a total of 78 youth access inspections and 31 inspections dealing with electronic cigarette vendors.
Serwatka reports that, overall, tobacco vendor inspections regarding youth access totalled 144.
The inspectors also made four inspections of secondary schools to ensure they were smoke-free, had mandatory “no smoking’ signs, and no ashtrays.
