BELOW IS A SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT FROM ENVIRONMENT CANADA FOR OUR AREA ISSUED AT 4 A.M. SUNDAY
Freezing rain this morning followed by strong winds.
Freezing rain continues to spread eastward early this morning. The freezing rain may be mixed with snow and ice pellets for some regions at times. The freezing rain should change to rain this morning as temperatures rise above the freezing mark. However, for areas close to Georgian Bay and northern Lake Huron, any changeover to rain should be brief before precipitation changes to snow as temperatures fall.
The areas most likely to see prolonged freezing rain include higher terrain areas such as the Dundalk Highlands and the Oak Ridges Moraine.
In addition, southwest winds gusting to 70 or 80 km/h will develop this morning into this afternoon. The strongest winds are expected close to Lake Huron and Lake Ontario as well as over the higher terrain of the Dundalk Highlands.
The freezing rain and wind are associated with a Colorado Low that will track through Northeastern Ontario today.
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.
Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.
