Tourists, tradespeople, and businesspeople could soon be paying a little more to stay at a hotel in the City of Belleville.
On Monday, city council will discuss a recommendation to make a now voluntary 2% Municipal Accommodation Tax a mandatory charge for all hotels and increasing it to 4%.
The tax is added to hotel guest’s bills.
In a staff report, it’s estimated the new mandatory tax could easily raise $900,000 a year.
It’s proposed the revenues be split between the city and the Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board
