The 18th annual Maple in the County event held its opening pancake breakfast today at LOHA Farms in Prince Edward County.
Many producers, Councillors and Prince Edward County residents were in attendance to prepare for the festivities.
The maple season is yet to begin but Chris Armstrong of LOHA Farms is hoping for it to start as early as next week and be a nice long season.
For the third consecutive year LOHA farms is teaming up with the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital in the “Back the Build” initiative in an effort to raise money for a new hospital in the county.
Executive director of the initiative Shannon Coull says they’re very grateful.
Also on hand for the event was the Mayor of Prince Edward County, Steve Ferguson.
Ferguson says he is excited for the event to begin because it brings a lot of attention and tourists into the County.
Ferguson adds that “this event puts the unity in the word community.”
The community rallies around Maple in the County as the first harvest of the season. With 13 producers set to hold events including; live music, petting zoo’s, wagon rides, pancake breakfasts, barbecue’s and of course maple production, the County is expecting 15,000 or more people to participate.
Local wineries, The Campbell’s Orchard and local arena’s will also be running events in the festivities. Mayor Ferguson says that their will be free public skating during Maple in the County.
Maple in the county is set to begin on the March 30th-31st weekend.
