Quinte West council will be asked to be considerably more generous with its financial support for community organizations when it sets its budget for this year.
Last night (Wednesday), the Corporate Finance Committee recommended council approve a total of $727,200 in grants, up $273,000 dollars from last year.
While most of the grants are ongoing, the committee approved some significant new financial support.
Among those, $200,000 a year for 4 years with the hope the grant will continue under a new council, to the proposed Natural History Museum.
The Field of Ability, to be constructed in Belleville, would receive a one-time donation of $50,000, and the Quinte Humane Society gets $62,500 a year for 4 years.
City staff believe that even with the large increase in grants the tax increase to residents can still be held to around 2% this year.
Quinte West council will make a final decision on the grant recommendations.
