The Trenton Golden Hawks have opened the 2019 playoffs with a decisive victory.
The Golden Hawks are taking on the Whitby Fury in the first round of OJHL playoff action and came away with a 4-2 win last night at home.
Things got off to a slow start with no scoring in the first 20 minutes of play.
Andy Baker was able to get Trenton on the board first when he put the puck behind Luke Pearson.
Whitby responded with a goal of their own with less than a minute left in the middle frame to keep things on a level playing field at 1-1 heading into the final period.
The Golden Hawks found another gear in the third, as they were able to find their offensive firepower. Dylan McMahon, Dalton Bancroft and Steven Elliott are notched goals.
Whitby did respond with one of their own but it wasn’t enough.
Benjamin Allard Robitaille got the win in net for Trenton.
The Golden Hawks were one for four on the man advantage.
Whitby did outshoot the home team by a 32-27 margin.
Game two is set for Sunday, March 2 at 3:30 p.m. in Whitby.
The Wellington Dukes start their first round series today. They are taking on Cobourg at 7:30 p.m. Game two goes tomorrow at 2 in Wellington.
