Health Minister Christine Elliott won’t say if legislation to consolidate local and provincial health networks into one “super agency” will save money or cost jobs.
Elliott says the new agency — called Ontario Health — is needed because the current system is too fragmented.
She says Ontario Health teams will be responsible for delivering care for patients in a geographic area.
She also says there won’t be any changes in how patients access their doctors.
Meanwhile, the CEO of the Southeast Local Health Integration Network, a local organization that will disappear under the new system, says he supports the government’s plans. Paul Huras spoke to Quinte News on Tuesday.
Huras also says he isn’t worried about his staff at the Southeast LHIN.
Meanwhile, the Ontario Health Coalition and the Canadian Union of Public Employees warn the new system could lead to privatization of public health care services.
