A Belleville councillor objects to the system that has municipalities paying the cost of disposing of hazardous materials.
Councillor Garnet Thompson voted against the move when Quinte Waste Solutions decided to continue the service.
Thompson tells Quinte News on Tuesday the municipalities “are being caught” since Quinte Waste Solutions has no way of disposing of the items and has to pay to have them disposed.
The Waste Solutions Board decided to continue accepting mercury bearing lamps, fluorescent tubes, bulbs and hazardous materials from residential sources at no charge.
