With some bitterly cold temperatures on the way the next couple of nights the City of Belleville has decided to open the downtown warming centre inside Belleville Public Library.
Temperatures are forecast to be close to -25 with the windchill, which falls within the city’s guidelines for opening the warming centre, so the atrium of the library will be open between 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. tonight (February 26) and tomorrow (February 27).
The City’s Emergency Management Control group is reminding potential users that the warming centre is simply a place to get out of the cold and beds and meals are not provided.
The winter warming centre protocol will stay in effect until the end of April.
