Heritage Belleville honours The Tie That Binds

History teaches us we are all connected and for Heritage Belleville that’s on the forefront of everything they do.

Signal Brewery in Corbyville hosted Heritage Belleville’s open house on Tuesday night and their theme for the evening was Heritage: The Tie That Binds.

Quinte Broadcasting Program Director Sean Kelly was the guest speaker and gave those in attendance a glimpse into how radio, especially local radio, does just that, it brings people and communities together.

He said we as a community are blessed to have this forum where we can discuss local issues.

Kelly continued to explain it is about more than just being a news source or a place to hear the latest songs.

Heritage Belleville Chair Janna Munkittrick-Colton says this week was the perfect week to announce this year’s Doors Open theme as this week is Heritage Week in Ontario.

She says she is working on getting media and places locally with a focus on communication to participate in this year’s event to give people a behind the scenes look into the communication industry.

Heritage Belleville also took the time to recognize the City of Belleville and Signal Brewery for their work in supporting local heritage.

The group also gave Wayne and Tara VanDijk a Revitalization Award for the Henry Corby House B&B and their work to keep a piece of Belleville’s history alive.

Munkittrick-Colten says in the next four years she will be to find more buildings in the area which can receive heritage designation. She said she will be looking at Thurlow ward, especially as it is part of the city.
