Trenton and Wellington continue to rack up the point totals as both teams came away with victories on Friday night.
The Golden Hawks were at home at the Duncan Memorial Arena to take on the Kingston Voyageurs in Jr. A hockey action.
Kingston was first to get on the scoreboard and held the 1-0 lead into the middle frame but it was all the home team after that.
Tyler Ignazzitto tied the game up 1:44 into the period. Cameron Gaylor scored on the man advantage just minutes later to give Trenton their first lead of the game.
Ted Davis and Michael Mannara scored in the third period to extend the Golden Hawks lead to 4-1 before Kingston cut the score in half.
Jeff Lindsay added the empty net goal to give Trenton the 5-2 win and the two points.
The game saw tempers flare in the third period as Kingston’s Max Emelifeonwu was handed a misconduct penalty for head contact following a brush up with Gaylor that saw both players penalized for roughing.
Trenton’s Jacob Campbell went to the sin bin for four minutes after he was caught spearing at the middle point of the period before both teams were able to keep their tempers from flaring further.
Kingston was outshot 44-32 during the game.
Anand Oberoi got the win in net for the Golden Hawks.
Trenton is off until Sunday night when they take on Lindsay at home at 7 p.m. They have three games remaining this season.
The Dukes added to their point total as well with a win on Friday night but it didn’t come easily.
Wellington took the early lead when Frank Vitucci notched the first goal of the game late in the opening period.
St. Michaels answered back in the second period, adding two goals of their own to make it a 2-1 game.
The Dukes were not to be outdone in front of their home crowd and Tyson Gilmour and Adam Unsinger found the back of the net to make it a 3-2 game.
It was not a penalty filled game until the dying seconds when a check from behind was called on Ben Woodhouse. He was given a two minute minor and a game misconduct on the play. Quinn Hanna was handed a two and a ten minute penalty for roughing and inciting an opponent stemming from the initial hit.
St. Michaels didn’t get away without a few penalties of their own as both Jonah Alexander and Tyler Busillo were given a two and a ten for roughing and inciting an opponent.
The Dukes were outshot 38-29 in the game but Logan Bateman got the win in net for Wellington.
Wellington plays Cobourg Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at home. They wrap up their season on the road on Monday with a game against Whitby at 2 p.m.
Things remain tight in the East Division standings. Cobourg has clinched a playoff spot with 71 points.
Trenton sits in second overall with 69 points, followed by Whitby at 66 and Wellington at 61. Cobourg has played two less games than Trenton, Whitby and Wellington.
