It’s hoped Hastings County council will try for federal government funding that would be available to ease the homelessness problem in the City of Belleville.
On Thursday, the Community and Human Services Committee decided to recommend county council set up a Community Advisory Board and apply for funding for the new federal program called “Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy”.
If accepted, Hastings County would administer over $200,000 a year over five years to battle the growing problem of homelessness.
The federal government has decided the money is only for the City of Belleville, which caused concern from councillors in Quinte West and other smaller municipalities in Hastings County.
