A 43-year-old Trenton man has pleaded guilty to charges of making and possessing child pornography, voyeurism, and sexual interference.
He entered the plea and was sentenced at the Quinte Courthouse on Friday.
The man, whose name is protected under a publication ban, was arrested in November of last year after OPP ICE investigators tracked his IP address to inappropriate videos being shared online.
When police arrived at his home he admitted to having child pornography on digital devices inside his Trenton apartment, where he lived with his two daughters.
Those files showed video evidence of the man inappropriately touching his 13-year-old daughter, as well as pornographic images and video of the girl and her 11-year-old cousin, filmed in a bedroom and bathroom in the apartment.
While giving a victim impact statement in court the daughter, who is now living with her aunt, says she feels angry for not being able to protect her little sister. She now has trouble trusting people and despite what happened, she loves her father.
Also speaking in court, the man said he’s aware his actions were “inappropriate at times” and that he’s proud of his daughter for making her statement in court, saying he “wished he had her strength”.
Justice Stephen Hunter gave the man credit for immediately owning up to the offences and for pleading guilty, sparing the victims from having to go through a trial, but says “inappropriate” is not a strong enough word to describe the acts he committed.
The man will serve four years and 260 days in a federal penitentiary, being given credit for time served, will be on the sex offender registry for life and must submit a sample to the DNA data bank.
He also faces a number of 10 year prohibitions on possessing weapons, being in public places where youth are present, communicating with youth without the approval of the Children’s Aid Society, being on social media or chat rooms, and taking jobs or volunteer positions where he could be in the care of youths.
He was also ordered to forfeit the electronic devices seized by police.
