City of Belleville staff call it a basically “status quo” capital budget.
Belleville council will begin two days of capital budget discussion Tuesday at city hall.
The proposed budget totals almost $39.4 million. In 2018, the capital budget totalled $32 million.
About $10 million of the $39.4 will be a continuation of projects previously approved by council.
Over 22 million dollars is proposed for 67 new projects with the largest being a 3.3 million dollar upgrade to the Sagonaska Bridge.
About $6 million of capital is proposed for development-related projects such as a Bell Boulevard
extension and the creation of a few pop-up shops in Victoria Harbour.
Close to 40% of the capital budget is taken up by roadwork and other transportation-related projects.
Revenues from internal sources such as property taxes, user fees, and reserve funds would pay over 70% of the
total cost with external revenue sources such as grants, donations, gas taxes and long term debt paying 29%.
It’s proposed $1.4 million in long term debt be used.
Budget discussions begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
