Belleville city council could make a move toward improving the lives of the homeless during the cold winter months at its meeting Monday afternoon.
The city’s grant committee is recommending council give pre-budget approval to support a local service provider with $50,000 from the Social Infrastructure reserve account.
It’s proposed the money would be used to operate an overnight “warming centre” until March 31 of this year.
The recommendation follows a meeting Thursday between the city and officials with the Grace Inn homeless shelter where an update was given on construction timelines for the not-for-profit facility.
Grace Inn will not be ready this winter.
