It may seem like common sense, but staff at Quinte Waste Solutions are reminding people the blue box is not the place to throw their used needles.
Rachel Revoy, the communications coordinator says they have been dealing with a number of sharps in blue bins recently, which is putting their staff at risk.
She also reminds people that the only proper place to dispose of needles is in a yellow sharps container and that medical waste of any kind is not accepted in the recycling or garbage.
Revoy says needles being improperly disposed of is one of the reasons being a waste collector is one of the five most dangerous jobs in North America.
