“The community gardens have been embraced by truly passionate people over the years,” says City of Belleville’s Green Programs Coordinator, Taylor Dall. “In one way or another, the program grows every year with the amazing support of many different groups. The feedback we get at the end of each season is definitely encouraging. It is clear the program helps people feed their families, stay active and socialize. Simply, it’s a wonderful initiative to be a part of.”
The only prerequisite for submitting a plot application is that applicants must be a City of Belleville resident. Community gardening can be for anyone. It’s a wonderful opportunity to grow fresh healthy food and meet others wishing to do the same.
Applications are being accepted until February 28. A lottery draw takes place each year to determine successful applicants. Previous community gardeners are required to re-apply each year.
Current City-run community garden locations:
-
Ponton Park, 251 Dundas St W
-
West Hill, 41 Octavia St
-
Bayview Heights, 75 Bay Drive
