It was unanimous. Brighton council has voted to allow a retail cannabis store in the municipality should the opportunity arise to have one.
The vote was taken last night.
Brighton is now joining Belleville, Quinte West, Prince Edward County, Stirling-Rawdon and other local communities in voting in favour of retail cannabis sellers.
ATV BYLAW TO BE CONSIDERED
Brighton council is expected to decide on whether or not to allow off-road vehicles on its roadways sometime next month.
Monday night council voted to have staff prepare an ATV bylaw for further discussion and a final decision.
Some on council don’t want all terrain vehicles driving on urban streets in Brighton.
No matter what happens. Off road vehicles will not be permitted on either County Road 30 or County Road 26 as Northumberland County does not allow ATV’s the roads it owns and maintains.
TO JOIN OR NOT TO JOIN
The Municipality of Brighton is being asked to join with Quinte West in formal attempts to bring more family doctors to the area.
Brighton council heard from the Quinte West Physician Recruitment and Retention Program coordinator at its meeting last night.
Mayor of Brighton Brian Ostrander says a committee review committee will report soon on whether it believes joining with Quinte West to recruit doctors would be better than working alone.
If Brighton were to join it’s believed council would be asked to contribute $50,000 annually to operate the recruitment program.
Quinte West has contributed $50,000 and so has the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation.
