The Belleville Police Service responded to 51 calls between January 17, 2019 at 5 a.m. and January 18, 2018 at 5 a.m.
Break, enter and thefts
Belleville, Ontario – On January 17, 2019 at 7:19 a.m. police were called to a break and enter investigation at a residence in the Moira Street West area. The investigation revealed that between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m., an unknown intruder entered a trailer and stole a PlayStation. On January 17, 2019 at 7:56 a.m., police attended to a second break and enter call in the King George Square area. A quantity of fishing gear was stolen from a shed. Two other property items were left behind by the thief. The Forensic Identification Section also attended this location to assist with gathering the property and crime-scene photography. A third break and enter occurrence was reported at 11:26 a.m. The investigation revealed that an unknown person entered a business on Bell Boulevard between 10:17 p.m. on January 16 and the morning of January 17, 2018 and broke into a donation bin. It is unknown at this time as to what, if anything, was taken. Police do have video surveillance to work with, and the investigation is continuing. Arrested on warrants
On January 17, 2019 at 3:11 p.m. police located a female in the Front Street and Victoria Avenue area who was wanted on outstanding arrest warrants. Twenty-eight-year-old city resident Angela Evelyn Elizabeth Nolan was arrested and taken into custody on charges of “failing to comply with an appearance notice to appear for the Identification of Criminal Act, and failing to attend court”. These charges originated from a theft under five thousand dollars charge from August of 2018. Nolan was released from custody on a promise-to-appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on all charges in February.
On January 17, 2019 at 5:09 p.m., police were called to a North Front Street business for a report of a male trespassing on the property. This investigation resulted in 26-year-old David Jeffrey Reid of Belleville being taken into custody on an outstanding arrest warrant for “failing to attend court”. The original charges stemming from this matter were for “theft under five thousand dollars and breach of probation”. Reid has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Drunk on the train
Belleville, Ontario – On January 17, 2019 at 6:02 p.m. police attended Via Station for a report of a drunken and rowdy male passenger. The train was coming from Toronto and on its way to Ottawa when conductors decided that the male should get off at the Belleville stop. Police assisted the crew and removed the man without incident. The reason for the removal was explained to the man. After some further discussion, the 38-year-old man was permitted to enter into a taxi service agreement. He left the city without further incident and headed back to Ottawa in the cab.
Drunkenness on the bus results in charges
On January 17, 2019 at 7:38 p.m., police received a report about an intoxicated man on a riding on a city bus, figuring he was on a bus to go home to Southern Ontario. When spoken to by the bus employee, the man became assaultive. An investigation resulted in 31-year-old Eric Kruchka of Hamilton, Ontario being arrested and taken into custody. He was charged with “assault, and resisting a peace officer”. Kruchka was later released on an officer-in-charge undertaking with conditions and a promise-to-appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in February. The bus driver suffered minor cuts and bruising to his nose / facial area.
Liquor arrest in the downtown
On January 17, 2019 at 9:52 p.m., police were called to Front Street for a report of man staggering and bouncing off buildings. This investigation resulted in the arrest of a 28-year-old city man for “being intoxicated in a public place”. The man was unable to care for himself, and he was arrested for his own protection and the protection of others. The man was lodged to a holding cell for the night before being released later in the morning on a provincial offences ticket.
