The Belleville Police Service responded to 51 calls between January 16, 2019 at 5 a.m. and January 17 at 5 a.m.
Break and enters
On January 16, 2019 city police responded to two break and enters. The first occurred at 4:39 a.m. at a business on North Front Street. An alarm sounded, and upon arrival police observed a smashed front window to the business. Although entry was gained through the front door, police state nothing appeared to have been removed. A second break-in occurred when police were called at 2:25 p.m. This occurred at a residence in the northeast area of the city. A homeowner arrived home to find a patio door open. Cash and jewellery were stolen. Other items were seized by police for further forensic examination. Four car collision results in charge
On January 16, 2019 at 9:11 a.m. police responded to a four-car collision in the Wallbridge-Loyalist Road and Moira Street West area. One person received minor injuries and damage to the involved vehicles was minor. Upon completion of the investigation a 19-year-old Madoc woman was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with the offence of “follow too close.” Anyone who may have witnessed this event is asked to contact investigating officer Cst. Snowmobile stolen
On January 16, 2019 at 9:37 a.m. police were called for a report of a theft of a snowmobile from a location on Old Madoc Road. The complainant advised police the snow vehicle was stolen during the previous night. It is described as a blue and black Yamaha Apex. An investigation is continuing. Liquor arrests
On January 16, 2019 at 9:07 p.m. police responded to a disturbance at an east end apartment complex. Information was received that a man appeared to be intoxicated and kicking on the doors of other residents. An investigation revealed the 32-year-old city man was unable to care for himself. He was arrested for his own protection and for the protection of others under the Liquor Licence Act for “being intoxicated in a public place”. The man was taken into custody and lodged in a holding cell over night before being released later in the morning on a provincial offences ticket.
On January 16, 2019 at 10:42 p.m. police responded to a second disturbance in the Bridge Street West area. A 51-year-old city woman was located. She too, was unable to care for herself due to alcohol consumption. She was arrested without incident for her own protection and for the protection of others under the Liquor Licence Act for “being intoxicated in a public place”. The female was taken into custody and lodged in a holding cell to await a sober release later in the morning on a provincial offences ticket.
