Update: Chad Guziedwicz says “95% of the neighbourhood” have signed a petition against this section of the path and he makes this clarification, that he did not mention the Harder Drive to Meagher Drive section.
A resident of Belleville’s west end is fighting the proposed next phase of the city’s bike trail, which would run close to the properties.
Chad Guziedwicz appeared before Belleville city council this week, objecting to the proposed final phase of the west end bike path, which stretches from the downtown to Loyalist College.
Guziewicz told council on Monday the section from Harder Drive to Meagher Drive is too close to the homes.
Director of Engineering Rod Bovay tells Quinte News the future development of Potters Creek subdivision might offer a solution, but that could be years away.
That final section of the trail is set to be developed this year and the funding is in the budget.
Bovay says, “It was funded initially a number of years ago when council identified the trail as a priority from downtown out to Loyalist College.”
Council referred the issue to the Traffic and Transportation Committee.
