Prince Edward County is going green.
Council voted tonight at a special meeting at Shire Hall to officially join other municipalities province wide who are opting in to hosting a marijuana retail store.
The Committee of the Whole almost unanimously supported allowing retail pot stores at a meeting last week.
Mayor Steve Ferguson says there were no comments made and the meeting was over within minutes.
This also continues the trend seen in Belleville and Stirling-Rawdon which have both said yes.
Brighton will vote on Monday, January 21, as will Quinte West.
Municipalities have until January 22 to let the province know if they are a willing host of a marijuana retail store.
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario released the winners of the initial lottery draw on Saturday in a process to create retail cannabis stores in the province.
Five businesses and/or individuals were selected in East Region out of 25 province-wide. They are all in municipalities with populations of at least 50,000.
