There’s no place quite like home.
For Amy Maracle and her two young kids; Kaylynn, 8 and Cameron, 4, that statement couldn’t have been more true.
They got the keys to their Habitat for Humanity home today at a key ceremony at 1215 Ridge Road in Tyendinaga.
Maracle told Quinte News she was overwhelmed when she heard the news she would be the partner family to work with the organization.

This is the first partnership between Habitat for Humanity PHE and the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte.
There have been two homes built through this partnership that have benefited two families with Indigenous descent.
Habitat for Humanity selection committee worked with the Band Council to select the two families.
Embridge and The Parrott Foundation each donated $100,000 to cover the cost on the builds.
Maracle herself had to contribute 500 hours of sweat equity into the construction of her own home.
Kaylynn was surprised by her class who made the trip to take part in the ceremony, and who also sang Happy Birthday to Amy who celebrated her 35th birthday by becoming a home owner.

Maracle expects she will begin moving in to her new home this weekend.
