The province is boosting the funding received locally for transit systems.
It was announced today Belleville, Quinte West and Prince Edward County will all see an increase in allocated funding.
Belleville will receive over $737,000 (a 5.6% increase), Quinte West will get almost $507,000 (2.1% increase) and Prince Edward County will be allocated $118,000 (20.4% increase).
The funds come from the Ontario gas tax program.
Jeff Yurek, Minister of Transportation made the announcement and said they are investing in public transit to make it a more convenient travel option and attract more riders.
The share that each municipality receives under Ontario’s gas tax program is based on a formula of 70% ridership and 30% population. These funds serve both the needs of large and small municipal transit systems.
