The Belleville Firefighters Association is expected to sign a new contract with the city this week, following a long stretch of arbitration.
The new three-year contract covers the years 2015, 2016 and 2017.
Association President Jim Donovan told Quinte News on Monday there were a number of things at issue, and two items the firefighters went back to the arbitration board about.
One was insurance coverage for in-line-of-duty death.
Donovan says they had to go back to the arbitration board to clarify the language. He said there was a limited time before payout and “we wanted that lifted. The restrictions on the in-line-of-duty death were lifted.”
He said there was a holdup with maternity and parental leave as well.
Donovan says the association expects to sign the contract this week.
Quinte News reached out to the city for comment.
Human Resources Manager Tim Osborne says there were a few “housekeeping glitches” that had to be cleared up and he expects a signed contract, probably Tuesday.
City council approved the contract by-law in December.
