10 a.m. UPDATE: 401 EAST NOW OPEN TO TRAFFIC
1 p.m. UPDATE: 41-YEAR-OLD MAN FROM SCARBOROUGH KILLED.
One person is dead following a single vehicle accident on Highway 401 eastbound near Brighton early Christmas morning.
The 401 eastbound is closed between Brighton and Trenton and detours will be in place until further notice.
The accident occurred around 2:30 in the morning.
Two people were ejected from the sport utility vehicle, which ended up in a ditch, well off of the highway. Two people were taken to Trenton Memorial Hospital, one with serious injuries.
The driver, who was killed, was from the Toronto area and had to be extricated by Brighton firefighters.
Northumberland OPP and paramedics responded to the scene as well.
