The Special Investigation’s Unit has finished its investigation into a Belleville Police officer, after a man was injured during an incident on New Year’s Eve 2017.
A 60-year-old man called 911 reporting that he was hurt and when the officer arrived at the apartment at Moira Street West and Sidney Street, the man was found on the kitchen floor.
He immediately stood up and swung a broom at the officer and paramedics, before reaching for a knife.
As he did, the officer used his Taser and the man fell backwards and hit his head.
He had to be taken to Belleville General Hospital, then Kingston General, to be treated for serious injuries.
SIU Director Tony Loparco has determined there are no reasonable grounds to lay criminal charges against the officer.
