The Ontario Energy Board has approved a merger between Veridian Connections and Whitby Hydro.
Veridian is owned by five municipalities, including the City of Belleville and all five had approved the merger earlier this year.
In its decision, the OEB says the merger will have no negative impacts on user prices, cost effectiveness or service levels and the expansion of the 24/7 control room in the Whitby Area may even have added positive impacts.
The merger means the new, yet to be named company, will service more than 162,000 residential and business customers, making it the fourth largest municipally-owned electricity distributor in Ontario.
